It was undoubtedly an important period that represented a challenge due to the diversity of experiences and roles that I had to play. It was also the opportunity to demonstrate that a practical application was possible in which the same philosophy could be adapted to other variables, like a stem cell capable of transforming itself into any organic tissue.
This period took place basically in Madrid, because in Cuba my link with the company was not significant, since I was able to make a living as a photographer, craftsman and painter (independent artist) until I emigrated in September 1998.
I left Cuba and headed to Madrid with 15 paintings and the objective of continuing my artistic career. I made my first personal exhibition at the Plastic Arts Workshop School on Elvira Street in Madrid. Later on, I participated in the project La Ciudad del Arte in the shopping center La Vaguada, located in the north of Madrid. After these two attempts and other promotional actions without satisfactory results, I began to realize that painting was not going to be my path, at least in Madrid. Perhaps because of this, opportunities appeared that quickly introduced me to the working world.
Between 1999 and 2006 I worked in two companies as a graphic designer and illustrator. In 2008 I decided to become a freelance, providing multidisciplinary communication services to companies and individuals. My first clients came from people I had worked with, which favored the word of mouth recommendation and with it, the possibility of getting new projects.
Freelance work was a challenge, as it tested my ability to adapt, speed of learning and the practical usefulness of a generalist and multidisciplinary mind to face very different projects and roles such as illustrator, graphic designer, event and product photographer, video production even in the operating room and my foray into programming.
Despite this richness of experiences, my almost 12 years as a freelancer are gradually returning to the artistic and philosophical expression, without closing the door to collaboration with other projects. I simply felt that it was the right time to unify all this experience and turn it into a starting point for a new project.
